Doug Campbell
On Tuesday, January 13, Doug Campbell came to Lights Academy to speak to us about water and how it is distributed. I was interested because it wasn’t something that I knew anything about, other than I press a button and water comes out of my fridge.
These are some of the things I learned
Reflection:
I thought it was interesting to learn where the water I use comes from. I will definitely think twice before keeping the water running while I brush my teeth or showering for hours. It is important to know that water is a valuable resource and because our population is increasing, we need to be wise about how we use it. I also think that it would be great to see technology in the future that could make the ocean water okay to drink, since that’s where most of the world’s water is.
These are some of the things I learned
- Most of Colorado’s population is on the east in Denver, but most of the water is on the west because of the mountains.
- Water right laws are a big deal right now.
- If water is on your property you have the right to it.
- Colorado is the only state besides Hawaii that water flows only away from.
- It is very expensive to store water
